Hives with Type 2

I was admitted to hospital with kidney stones in Jan 2020 and was found to have diabetes type 2 at this time. Prior to being diagnosed I had hives and really itchy skin. Does anyone else get this? My doctor prescribed fexofenadine and whilst it helps it hasn’t got rid of hives. These are appearing every day. Is this normally high sugars that would trigger? My doctor seems to be reluctant to make a link of diabetes and hives. I m fed up of getting this daily

I had systemic rashes for a while and I think it was caused by the Freestyle Libre adhesive.

GP put me on Fexofenadine and it didn't work well for me either. Got referred to a dermatologist and was put on a high dose of Ceterizine (up to 4 a day) which was better.

My endocrinologist asked my GP to refer me to Immunology but the appointment took over 18 months and in that time I'd given up the Freestyle Libre and changed basal insulin and the rashes cleared up.

Never did know for certain what caused it but I'd ask the GP to refer you to a specialist if he cannot sort it out.

@Poejay I had the WORST hives - particularly around my elbows - until I went mostly gluten free (I don't eat it but other household members do so I am in contact with it). I then developed the WORST eczema/dermatitis around several joints on fingers on both my hands (having never had it before). Recently I was able to give up most dairy - and almost overnight it disappeared. For me, I'm fairly convinced it's auto-immune related. My BG levels have been in the normal range for several years. Normalising BG levels is a good thing for so many reasons, but for me it required removing gluten and (now) dairy from my diet to deal with the hives/eczema. Good luck.
