Hello, this is my first time on here so it's all a bit new, but the situation is....my 14 yr old daughter was diagnosed with type 1 4 months ago. We are dealing with it ok so far but her dad and stepmum are taking her to Tunisia in 2 weeks time, for 2 weeks and I'm basically worried sick! They have only seen her a few times since diagnosis so their knowledge of diabetes is very basic, but my worry is the obvious - heat and risk of illness. They have had some training from the diabetic nurse in what to do in the event of illness etc. but I was just wondering if anyone can offer us some first hand experience please on the effect of BG in high temp ( it's currently about 32 degrees and will get hotter). My daughter hasn't been exposed to heat really since diagnosis so I have no idea how it will affect her. Also any other travel advice would be appreciated. We have the frio bags to keep insulin cool, there is a fridge in the room too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

I'm going to let others reply as many here know so much more than me but the work you do with your daughter before she goes to keep herself safe seems to me to be invaluable. You sound so sensible and you just need to make sure she is very well hydrated and tests more and eats well. You need to talk this through with everyone there if you can as this will educate her dad and stepmum and give you some peace of mind. Make sure she has her phone with the free Whatsapp so you can be on hand for immediate advice.
Good luck. P

I always need less insulin with hot weather. Usually take few units less both basal and bolus. So I think she just needs to test more and have smth sweet with her all the time.

Whatsapp is only free over an internet connection, ok if you have wifi access at all times but otherwise using it abroad could prove EXTREMELY costly!!!
