Holiday realisation

Hello all, good to see you all, I hope everyone is well.

I've just come back from holiday, and I have realised a couple of things. Firstly I really have become a bore... Now behave, I mean a food bore

I found when I was away that while I had the choice of so many delicious foods I craved my staples, things I suppose I feel 'safe' with. Fish was one craving, but in California that was easily satisfied, another was leeks - STOP laughing!! It's so easy to live on your safe foods, and make a huge variety of meals with them, when they are not so easily available, or your eating at a friends house or hotel/motel I found I began to panic. I did manage to eat very well (as you can imagine) but I have become a food bore - does anyone relate?

Secondly, I realised I missed you guys, even the rows  Not that that will stop me going away in the future.

Nice to see you home with us Jo.

yes - must confess to the same worries of being out of my food comfort zone. just about to go away for the first time since I began to take control. very worried that I'll lose it!!!

Hi Cath, I think we have to accept we will lose it to a lesser or greater amount. I tried very hard to only eat low carb foods as much as possible, but will confess to a 9.4 BG reading one day, which is the highest reading I have ever had. It was made worse for me, as my readings are never ever above a 6 and I am a real control freak about my figures. I had to stop and calm down and accept this is not a normal situation and if I didn't calm down I was going to spoil the holiday.

Just try your best to eat sensibly, but don't let food become the spoiler for your holiday. (I never in a million years thought I would hear myself say that!!).

good to have you back and pleased you had a good holiday, thanks for the pm

will you be starting your fasting days now ? I've done about two weeks now and managing to get lower fasting bg's (but not completely there yet)
and I've really found it pretty easy ...

Nice to have you back after a good holiday? Wondered why it was quite round here.

What's fasting days? relatively new to this forum only a few weeks.

Fast means to abstain from food.

Hi Gilly, you're welcome, sorry it came a bit late.

I don't know if that's a compliment or insult Dawn

Tui, Some of us saw a program about ways to fast to help your health, the winner seemed to be a 5:2 fast, eat normally for 5 days a week, then on the other two you fast, but you are allowed a small amount of calories that you can use in a single meal. I did the Newcastle Diet and had amazing results, so plan to do the 5:2 fast starting this week. I did a day before I went away to see what it's like and it's fine. I will be doing Tuesday's and Thursday's starting tomorrow.

Just had to share, I tested with ketostix tonight and I'm still in/back in ketosis - yeah!! I am thrilled to bits. Amazing what a splodge of purple can do for a girl
