On holiday in Florida now... Most restaurants will swap items around eg salad for fries. Meat is king over here so LCHF is relatively easy not sure how it would be for vegetarians. Buffet restaurants like Sweet Tomatoes focus on salad. Steak and BBQ restaurants will do meats without sauces or for chains like Sonny's they do a dry run for ribs so no sugar. For drinks ask for lite not diet. If self catering you have whole foods and aldi. Publix has better fruit and veg than Walmart but I bought a box of lettuce 12 inches by 6 inches by 4 inches for $3.96 in Walmart. Apples are best avoided as too much wax but nice blueberries and strawberries. Look for heavy cream rather than the squirty type which tends to have lots of additives. Cheese and ham much better now - go for the sharp cheddar and I even found feta this time round. Avoid baked beans - imagine beans stewed in brown sugar and you'd be close. Iced tea is worth a try though go for unsweetened. You can also buy mixed in Walmart and dollar tree that you add to water - zero to 5 cals. Bacon is streaky so best served overdone. Free range eggs are available. Nuts easy to find as are crackers etc if you need to carry something for hypos. Which part of Florida are you visiting?
Staying in a Disney hotel for 10 days then onto I drive for 11 days
I know I will find this so difficult as my wife and daughter will not want to eat the same things as me
BTW have been here a week and BS between 5 and 7 80% of time - which for me is building on improvement from UK as T2 LCHF but needing insulin. Make sure you have good insurance healthcare is expensive.
We spent a week in Florida 2 months after I had started low carb.. not a problem.. Loads of salad options and plenty of meaty things too. Burgers without chips or buns if nothing else is available. The US was where Atkins started so quite a lot of places will be more used to low carb than in the UK.Not been on here for a while but here goes,
Going on holiday to Florida for 3 weeks in November,I keep on thinking this is going to be a nightmare with all the wrong foods over there.
