Apologies if this is an old chestnut but I like a little bit of honey on my porridge (1/2 teaspoonful) is this a good thing or not, and how does honey rate in the allowed/not allowed stakes?

Thanks

Andrew

Honey is probably at least 75% sugars(it's variable). Only you can decide if it fits in your way of eating.
Some of the sugar is fructose( I can't remember how much) which has no effect on blood glucose, but has other issues.

Andrew,

Only way of knowing the answer is by testing afterwards. So, if it doesn't cause a spike in your blood glucose then its fine, should it cause a spike then look for a alternative.

Local honey is supposedly good for hayfever sufferers, there is a man close to where I live has a couple of hives and sells it to a local bakery. My wife buys it for my two lads who get hayfever, puts a spoonful on their breakfast cereal, can't say for definate if it works, but it sure does taste nice!

Diabetic Honey 1978

I hope that this topic might jog somebody's memory banks so here goes.

When I was diagnosed in February 1978 with T1 Diabetes. I seem to remember that at that time, you could buy a brand of special HONEY here in Great Britain, for people with Diabetes.

I've been racking my brains all day, trying to recall the name of this brand, and wondered whether anybody who was also diagnosed around this period can help!

I would also like to know whether you can buy HONEY, which is low in sugar or honey that is specially made for Diabetics.

I hope there is some good news as I quite like the stuff

Honey is made by bees! Not sure if they even know or would want to know about diabetes.
