I have a friend who used to keep bees and was wondering whether honey can be used [in moderation] by diabetics.....even beneficial!.

I think honey is a definite no-no. Liquid sugar, really.I know things like Manuka honey are supposed to be especially good for normal folk but us diabetics probably do best to avoid it.
