hi, well done thats great news, i'm pleased for you, i'm just starting to get good results, had a shock after porridge last week even using almond milk i went unto 12, so have cut that out, bacon and eggs all the way, keep smiling and long may it continue for youToday, for the first time, I saw the number 6 come up on my meter! I scored a 6.3 before lunch after a 9.2 before breakfast.
I didn't repeat last week's mistake, and had a breakfast before going shopping! I had strawberries and natural greek yoghurt to start the day.
I have just had a prawn salad for lunch and am keeping my fingers crossed that I will see another 6 in a couple of hours.
Guess who is smiling today?

i have not tried that, hadn't even thought of it, i did know some things change in heating but not that, thanks i will try it at a later date. i have my 2nd 3 month review early Aug, i'm trying to stay off meds, so don't want my over all numbers to be affected by spikes, i hope this is a goos plan, it's still a scary place for me.Jill - have you tried your porridge uncooked? Not Ready Brek, but plain rolled oats? I'm fine with that (although I haven't tested for cooked, as I like it just with cold milk. If you add the milk, then leave it a couple of minutes to soak/soften, it's delicious. My understanding is the cooking impacts on the digestion of the oats.

if you over did the walk, your liver will dump sugar, you might try a bit more steady? if diabetes worked like maths, this site wouldn't exist. it has a will of its ownThanks everyone. Its great to have such support in this.
I am rather disappointed, as after lunch I took the dogs for a brisk 30 minute walk, and now, 2 hours after lunch, the reading has gone up to 9! That doesn't make sense to me.
What did I do wrong?
The prawn salad consisted of prawns (duh!), romaine lettuce leaves, 1 tomato, 1 small beetroot, some sliced red pepper. I didn't have any bread or anything with it.

wow, wish i could get those results, i thought i was doing ok, will have a rethink as could do a lot better, could it be i've still got weight to get off, i'll have to be much stricter, thanksI started about the same fasting point as you, with an HbA1c of 8.8%. At My initial follow up, which was after 4 months, my HbA1c was down to 5.5%, then early last month 5.3%. My bloods usually run between 3.5 and 4.5, with a very off one up to 5. I've been lucky, I think.
I'm now very skinny, and yes, I have been pretty strict with myself. ok thanks, will work hard, i'm sure it's the weight, i'm down 1.5 stone, i swim and jog in the pool most days, walk as much as my knees will allow, i think my portions could be smaller, but no bread, pots, rice, pasta, not much fruit or milk, i'm feeling much better, you've done so well.I'm now very skinny, and yes, I have been pretty strict with myself. If I'm honest, about the only times I have found it tough have been if I haven't known what I'm going to eat, and allow myself to get hungry. In that undecided state. We eat proper meals, at mealtimes, and always sit at the table to eat. Even before this, we would plan several days menus in advance, so it's then just a case of sticking to it, or swapping tomorrow's dinner to today, or vice versa. If I was going somewhere where I didn't know how eating would go - like travelling for example, I always make sure I have something in my bag I can eat, if what's available is horrendous.
Once the peaks and troughs are eliminated, life is much more calm anyway.

I'm so glad you posted this because I was going to ask about the effect cooking had on oats. I haven't had oats for months but wanted to reintroduce because of the benefits regarding cholesterol. At the moment I limit the amount to 15g and I mix them with either plain yoghurt or fromage frais (marginally less carbs than yoghurt). I had home made veg soup and a brown bread bun and i tested 14,6 two hours later,but I had steak and veg including new potatoes for evening meal and tested 6.2 two hours later,dosent make much sence .Thanks everyone. Its great to have such support in this.
