Hi everyone, I've been a lurker on this forum since 2010!
Anyway I've been asking about the pump for a couple of years, I've been on tresiba since October 2014 which was the plan to stable my levels but still no better, I have the dawn phenomenon and unless I inject 4u rapid at 3.45am (which I did in pregnancy everyday with my 3 children) it carries on rising, raising tresiba does nothing for the DP aside from make my hypo after 11am. I've had 2 cgms on in the past 12 months to see if they could see a pattern and the pattern shows when I walk with my double pushchair to school (2miles uphill) I drop, I do this walk 6x a day as my son is in nursery so it's back and forward all day.
So I got a letter from my Dsn this morning saying they have made a case for me an insulin pump. I'm wondering if there is a time scale? She wrote the criteria I meet on the letter also.

While you are waiting for a pump you might be able to take the edge off the DP with something like 8u of Levemir at bed time. Then a carby snack prior to the morning session of buggy Olympics.

Thanks for your reply, would I be able to mix Levemir and tresiba? I used to be on Levemir twice a day but couldn't stay below 20 on it

Well the pump will allow much better fine tuning of your basal rate so hopefully you will get one soon.

No you should mix the two unless under medical supervision.

If you've exhausted all options on injections then the pump will definitely help somewhat, you can set different basal rates to deal with things like DP. Difficult to say how long you'll wait, but good luck anyway.
 
I did think that noblehead but just wanted to ask anyway, il not give up hope, just hope it's soon but at least it's something to look forward to
 
Hello, I first talked to my dsn about the pump around christmas time. I too suffer with the dawn phenomenon I went bed last night at 6.6 checked at 3 am and was 12 by 7am it was 22.
The nurse said that as I also have other medical conditions and have lost my hypo awareness I would be a good candidate.
She has given me the date of the 12th April to start on the insight pump, so all in all the process has taken approximately 4 months.
Do you split your long acting insulin? What time do you take it?
 
I did try to split it but because tresiba lasts near 40 hours it didn't make a difference, just went hypo through the day time but a few months sounds good! Here's hoping xx
