After seeing my consultant yesterday about varying bs levels, he sent me for blood tests to check for other antibodies associated with other immune disorders for which the nurse took 3 tubes of blood. Was told i would be booked in for a whole day to have other tests such as a biopsy of stomach and a few other things. Had a call today to be booked in for just a cortisol test in 2 weeks time. The test will be be for 1 hour. From what i understand they will give me sufficent insulin to drop my bs levels to near hypo or induced hypo :shock: and test my cortisone levels every 15 mins for 1 hour. This will allow them to see if my body is producing sufficient cortisone levels. Cant help thinking they found antibodies in my blood to have this done quickly as i wasnt expecting this so soon.
 
Why don't you just ask them to give you a copy of the results?
 
It seems that they are testing for coliec (sp) disease which is basically a allergy to gluten, the stomach biopsy is part of this test, the as the blood can give a false negative.. But a biopsy will show if your stomach/intestine is damage as if you are allergic to gluten it will produce welt and/or lesions in common with an allergic reaction on the outside skin..

The other test cortisone, yep a blood test to measure your current level, and the other test they are doing is to measure reactions etc... This will indicate whether you have Addisons disease...

If you'll clear of these ask the docs about changing you over to an animal insulin, as sometime unpredictable hypo's, quick swings from high to low blood glucose levels can be symptoms of a reaction to human insulin..
 
I agree that it could be coeliac and addison's testing, but it would be best to ask them. There are numerous things they would biopsy the stomach for. Addisons is extremely rare, but not impossible given your signs and symptoms. You could prove negative for Coeliac, but still have a touch of it and benefit from reducing gluten. Best not to change your diet before the testing, in case it affects the result.

Presumably the stomach biopsy involves an upper endoscopy procedure, which is a flexible tube passed down through the mouth, under sedation. Invasive tests can stress the diabetic body like surgery does, so have a look at these guidelines so you know how to prepare and what questions to ask beforehand:

Hi Cat had the bloods done on tue and phoned consultants secretary this morning to get my results. Was first told they are all back and to phone later after the consultant had gone through them. When i phoned back later she said she had made a mistake and theyre not back. Was told that the antibody tests take a week or more to be done, and reminded that i am to go to the hospital for my cortisol test on wednesday 9th April so to wait till then.
 

Interesting. Doctors and their staff are often like this when it comes to sharing the patient's info with the patient. They are scared you might learn something and ask questions they're not used to answering. I would keep trying. I usually take notes on the date and time I call, who I speak to and what they say. I think it's reasonable to know what one is being tested for, when the results will be available, and to be given the results upon request.
