HOSPITAL APPOINTMENT

Well where do i start, I had my first appointment at the diabetic clinic yesterday regarding my feet. The lady i saw wouldn't get any prizes for making you feel comfortable, infact she was like an american pit bull with breasts. However, this said, one i thing i will say is that she really knew her job and she was very nice in an odd kind of way. We talked about everything from the day i was diagnosed, GP, medication, complications etc. I'd recently been to see a chiropodist and she asked me what he'd done. When i said that he'd looked at my feet and gave me a memory sole for my left shoe,(it's the right one thats really sore), and i was in and out within five minutes she was really impressed (not). Anyway after loads of tests she diagnosed DPN, but thankfully it's only in the earlier stages. She told me that i've got to test at least three times a day whether my GP likes it or not, (she wasn't very impressed with him either), and if he wasn't prepared to give me test strips then she would, whoopee.

I've got to go and see her again on Monday and within 2 hours of me getting home she'd rung to say that i had appointments for the doctor in October and a dieticien in November, (it's not you is it Ally ?)

Anyway, sorry for going on but i've not felt so happy and positive for yonks. I actually feel for a change that someone not only cares about my health but is taking an active interest in it apart from myself and there is help out there for me. 8)

hya hazey,
really pleased for you hun xx

It's great when you meet a doctor who has some real sense and CARES!
Read up on Dr. Katharine's and Bernstein's patients, who have recovered from DPN by eating strictly low carb. then decide if that's the road for you.
Also read up on Charcot feet and see what happens if you don't get the DPN under control. I'm sorry to scare you but it happened to my husband . It's one reason I really began to STUDY this condition. and why I'm Screaming "LOW CARBS" from every available rooftop.

I had never heard of Charcots until you just mentioned it and I am glad that you did. I recently had a problem where my big toe became very swolen and very red, my doctor was convinced it was an infection and I spent 3 weeks on antibiotics which did nothing. They did xray the foot and found nothing but I am sure it was not an infection. It would have cleared up alot quicker than it did given the strength of tablets I was on.

Thanks for all the replies. Hanadr where can i find the info on the "charcot feet" as i've never heard of this before and i'm intrigued as to what it says. I received, yesterday, the Dr Bernstein book of which i've just started to read.

With regards to my feet it's a case of whatever it takes to keep them with me so i'm extremely grateful for any info regarding this. I am obviously very upbeat about the recent improvement in my medical provision but this doesn't mean for one minute i will rest on my laurels and think from now on it'll be plain sailing. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
