hi all
I am 54 and newly diagnosed Diabetic type 2. I am interested in how diabetes affects women. could anyone tell me their experience?

Thank you very much

Hi LadyD2 and welcome to the forum I can't really think of anything to say on how diabetes affects women - I presume you are talking about subjects like menstruation and/or pregnancy. I don't think it has/had any particular effect on me from that point of view. I am sure many members will be able to answer your question from their own experience and will be along soon.

Since you are newly diagnosed, here is some basic information which will help you to get to grips with diabetes care. Ask as many questions as you like as there is usually someone who will know the answer.

Hello there Lady and welcome to the club.

I'm 51 this year and was diagnosed at the age of 47. As far as I'm aware there are no specific 'complications' affecting women per se, unless you count pregnancy of course.

For me the diagnosis has been nothing but positive, weight loss, re-gaining control of my life and the improvement of my health, well-being and outlook have all been the direct result of having T2. No solid signs of menopause so can't comment on that yet.

Nice to meet you.

Hi all,
Thank you for the replies
I presume the effects of diabetes and the complications that ensue would be different for men and women for example sexual health and anything related to this. I was reading some topic online on women and diabetes and started to see diabetes from different angle. I even began to think that men and women diabetics should be treated differently (may be too quick )

I've read of several T1s who find that their blood glucose levels are affected by their menstrual cycle.
For myself I know that before diagnosis ( I was a slow onset T1) my periods had stopped. I thought that I had gone through the menopause. By then I was very thin so this could have been the reason but I suspect it was a direct result of high glucose levels; within a few days of going onto insulin I had a period.
