How Long Have You Had Type 1 Diabetes?

50 years. Recently received my gold medal from Diabetes UK. Now I feel like an Olympian!
 
August 1977; so that's about 39 years. When I first became diabetic, I used glass syringes and the only testing was of urine in test tubes. Needles and syringes were boiled before use and insulin was porcine. I remember being told by nurses not to expect to live much beyond my thirties. Still clinging on...
 
I've had type 1 now for 12 years! It was my 12 year anniversary a couple of days ago! Time has seriously flown!
 
27 years ago this month, erm I call it a leaving present from my ex !!

33 yrs as type 2 (mis diagnosed)
I'm 53
 
Diagnosed Dec 23 rd 1952 63 or 64 years ago still going strong thanks to the training from Alder Hey hospital Liverpool
