I don't think there's any golden rules KK. You have to decide what's right for you and match your insulin (are you T1?) to your intake. I know 2 people who just carry on eating as though non diabetic and inject a lot of insulin to compensate.Hi everyone
I have been trolling through the recipes on this site and have printed quite a few off, then when reading through them I have noticed that a lot of them are massivley high in carbs!!! So far I have seen chicken tandoori at a whopping 168.3g per serving down to macaroons at 2g per serving.Even such things as asparagas and ham soup is 38.9g. A salmon and brocooli bake is 14g. I could go on and on.....Just how many carbs is acceptable in a meal? I would have thought salmon and broccoli would have been very low. I'm beginning to feel this lchf is just to much bother and to just carry on eating a healthy diet with no sugar, I'm just getting more and more confused with what I can and cant eat, and the cant list is getting bigger and bigger! Fed up now
Lifebelt coming .... nowIts reassuring to hear that im not alone in being confused. My understanding is Im supposed to be eating plenty of slow release carbs (wholewheat rices, pastas etc), & cutting down on sugars, but to be honest, tbe only way im going to have any idea if its the right way or not is by testing. Im waiting to see if GP will prescribe on the grounds of anxiety if nothing else. In the meantime, i will carry on feeling as though im drowning!
Hi well we can drown together in this minefield called diabetes, luckily there are plenty of people who will throw us a lifejacket and help us swim to shallow waters which are much clearer. Going back to kale I am having it for the first time tomorrow with roast chicken.I shall cook as I would cabbage and put butter in it. I may even be very daring and have a roast potato....see what effect that has on my bs.Kale is yummy as 'greens', steamed with roast dinners!
Kale apart, ive been quietly in tears trying to get my head around what i should and shouldnt be eating. Ive cut my coca cola (full fat consumption) down to one can a week, and cut out sweets, but that apart i havent made much in the way of changes.

Thanks everyone I think I am trying to run before I can walk. I will certainly have a look at that book and download the app you mentioned. I kept thinking I couldn't enjoy anything with carbs again but I see now that isn't so, I'm going to try the slowly slowly catches monkey way which cor me might be better and see which carbs affect my bs most. I am T2 by the way on metformin. By the way I've bought kale for the first time do you cook it like cabbage?
Oooh sounds nice, think I will the try that tomorrow with some leftover chicken from today's roast. Thanks for the tipTry popping the kale in the oven on a baking tray, sprinkle with a little salt, pepper and olive oil and bake for about 8 minutes. Alternatively, pop it in a frying pan with some coconut oil and cook until just crispy, really nice as an alternative to rice with oriental dishes..good luck
Ah your not stating the obvious because I didn't know they had two different lot of recipes. I just assumed that this sight would only have low sugar low carb recipes. I didn't look on the forum but on the diabetes uk sight. Perhaps I would have been better off just keeping to the forumI may be stating the obvious but when you say you have been looking at recipes on this forum - are you sure you're looking in the low carb lot?
Not every one here is following the LCHF diet .. So did you find their resipies ?Hi everyone
