The amount of carb each person can tolerate will differ. However, cutting back on carbs will give you the best chance of not developing diabetes. The worst carbs are refined sugar and the starch carbs (bread, rice, pasta, potato and cereal). Most of us can only tolerate these in very small portions.
Can I suggest that you post your question again in the Newlly Diagnosed part of the forum and introduce yourself in the Introductions area. That way, more people will see it and you will be given the standard advice on food that is given to all new members.
