I bought the collins little carb book after advice on here thanks ....but I cant seem to find what the ideal limit of carbs you should have in a day measured in the g :? thankyou

The Carb Counter is just that, a lexicon of carb values. It won't prescribe an upper or lower limit for the treatment of diabetes.

For that, you would need to read Dr. Bernstein (30g carb), Dr. Clark (60g) or Drs Allan & Lutz (74g). In truth, the precise value you're looking for is probably unique to you and certainly a whole lot less than the NHS official line.

All the best,

fergus

Thanks makes things a little clearer as not sure wether you could have 100s of carbs g or single numbers glike 10 for example sorry to sound dim but am new to this so will work on the 100 mark and see how I go from there just gives me a little guidance thankyou

Hi cjc,

If you start with a target of 100g carbs per day then that is a good starting point. How that 100g is made up is down to you, but the sensible thing would be to stagger it through the day, e.g. 30g at breakfast, 30g at lunch, 40g from evening meal. As Trink said, you can either adjust the carbs up or down depending on what sort of results you get from the 100g.

I dropped the carbs as low as possible at first but found I was alternating between liver dumps and lows, so I worked back up until things levelled out. Probably starting around 100g and working down might be smoother

There is a longer version of Test test test here

and a few gazillion other good resources in the stickies

(reading is a symptom of diabetes)

I am type 1 and have been trying to reduce my carbs as I was putting on weight.
Have reduced carbs to 100g a day but dont think can get lower than this.

The thing is I feel great and am losing weight because am having less insulin I suppose. Problem with a pump is its very easy to overeat and still stay in control. Not a good idea in the long term

If you feel great and are losing weight(quite poetic that) on 100g then stick with that and see how it goes.

Sounds like you have the right attitude!

This was interesting
