Ok I'm am low carbing (<50g per day) moderate protein (<55g per day) and high fat (err not shying away from the fat). I see on this forum I see the encouragement to drink at least 2ltrs per day. I just don't seem to make it, talking with a random person on the tube the other day (unusual in itself but he was an expatriate from the US) he suggested drinking a pint of water as soon as I wake up and a pint at 2 other times of the day. Like a challenge.

So I wondered how much are my fellow Type2's are drinking per day? Wanna up it?

Even if your not LCHF-ing then drinkin yo H2O is gonna work for you.

So far I've drunk 500mls before breakfast and 500mls at 12pm. So 1ltr down only 1 to go.....

Umm.....non.....**runs to fridge to catch up**

EDIT..........2 cups of coffee and 2 pints of water so far

EDIT.......3 pints

So far 750ml plus 2 mugs of coffee/tea. I will have another 750ml this afternoon and another this evening.

not actually measured yet.... but well above 2000 mls....

I think the question is......

how many times do you visit the little room and at what times....

last couple of nights this has included 04:00....

what goes in must come out at sometime....

I need to watch my evening intakes me thinks....

I hear you H....I don't hold water well...in one end...out the other. I do however neglect to drink in the evenings and need to rectify that. Getting up in the night is a down side but keeping everything working as it should is the plus side maybe. Remind me I said that when I am grumbling about having had to get up several times in the night

I have a pint first thing in the morning when I take some meds, then I have a pint with each meal. To avoid repeated visits to the wc at night I only drink whisky after 7 pm

Thanks for the reminder. I really need to up my daily water intake e.g. I've only had 3 cups of coffee so far today but, because of this thread, I've just finished a pint of water. I, too, will look at that app.

My goal (which i dont hit every day) is:

1 litre before 9am
Another before midday
Another by 3pm
Another by 6pm
Another by 9pm

- because i am obese, and trying to lose weight, and it is Summer

I usually achieve about 4-4.5 litres

Definitely feel better when i hit target. And oddly, on the days i drink so much, but not after 9pm, i get up LESS in the night.

In retrospect, until i decided to drink this much, my urine was darker, i used to get up 2-3 times a night (blood sugar under 7 all night). Now i usually only get up once. I think i was permanently mildly dehydrated.

Going to record mine tomorrow and see what I actually do do... we have "water at work"(!) and my glass is 350 mls... and I must actually drink a bucket....
I think it actually keeps my BG down a wee bit.... but I could be wrong about that too...

I know I'm going against the grain here, but I don't believe it is necessary to drink 2 litres or more of water per day if you don't feel like drinking it. I believe our bodies are good at telling us when we are dehydrated, by making us thirsty. If your urine is dark, then you probably should drink more water. Urine should be yellowish, not clear or dark. If we drink more than our body needs, it just gets flushed out as urine.

I get a dry mouth as a side effect of various drugs I take, so I have a sipper bottle available at all times. I have them in the kitchen, living room, bedroom, office, and in my handbag. I don't know how much water I drink per day - it could be over 2l. But I don't push myself to drink it, I just drink when I am thirsty.

Actually the only time I push myself to drink water is if I have a urinary tract infection or bladder irritation, because diluting the urine helps a lot in that situation.

@CatLadyNZ
would agree, there is no point forcing it down if you don't feel like it. I do a fair amount of various exercises during the day and enjoy drinking cold water, apart for a cup of tea first thing and when I get home from work and a coffee at 11's water is the only liquid I drink during the week... there is some wine at the weekend, a bottle over three days.
I really need to sort out my nocturnal activities though.....

Horses for courses...

That's really cool if your body/brain recognises the 'thirsty' signals. Mine really doesn't do so well and I literally forget to drink water.I can walk past water bottles, taps and if I'm preoccupied I wont register it.

I'll drink a coffee cause I associate it with a pick me up and I like the taste. I'll drink sparkling water with a meal and then think "um I'm actually really thirsty" ... I have gone 16hrs before without a drink of anything.... so for me forcing myself to drink water is a must.

Err that's why I started the thread..... ;-)

Brunneria,

Wow you get through a LOT of water....

Really interesting that you say about your pee, ahem, cause today I have no-way been to the WC as much as I usually do. It's almost as if my poor body has been screaming out for fluids and now it's got some it aint letting go!! Lol.

Today: 2ltrs + of lemon still water.

Thanks everyone. Same again tomorrow?

Gotta love Brita ain't cha

That does sound like something is not right with your thirst signals, yes. 16 hours is a long time to go without a drink. I made my post because there is so much talk on websites and in the media about everyone making sure they drink 2l a day, when there isn't any hard evidence for why it should be this amount and not another. Maybe 1.5l would be just as good, who knows?

I would imagine when you weren't drinking much water that your urine would have been quite concentrated and dark. That is a sign you need to drink more water. My post was really about the general advice that everyone should drink a certain amount, when for most people that advice probably isn't necessary. I should have added the caveat that if your thirst meter doesn't work well, then you should make a point of drinking enough.

I try to drink a 1.5 litre bottle a day plus other fluids - usually in the form of 3-5 mugs of decaff coffee, soup, herbal teas, and bedtime cocoa, so probably between 2 and 3 litres. But if it's hot or I'm thirsty then I'll drink more. but sometimes like todayif I'm not thirsty I'll maybe drink a bit less.

I've seen what I believe was the original recommendation to drink 8 glasses of water a day increase over the years to 8 pints and recently I've seen eight litres suggested!! It's apparently possible but rare to make yourself quite ill by drinking too much water over a short period.

Like @CatLadyNZ I tend to keep a number of strategically placed bottles around the house and a small one in my bag, so i can have quick swig whenever I feel the need, so I can't really put an accurate figure on my fluid consumption.
