I can keep my sugar stable all night until I get up. Having my levemir at 9.30pm and 9.30am. Today I got up at 8.30am. My sugar was 6.4 and 1hr later 12.5 (not eaten) the previous day I got up at 9am. I was 4.2 and then had gone up to 10.0 an hour later, again no food.

How can I cure this? I can on my pump but I'm having a short break. Should I change times of long acting or take breakfast insulin as I get up and then make sure I eat within 45 mins of taking it? Or, take one unit of humalog and then take breakfast shot when I'm ready for it?

Thanks

Hi Candy,

Try eating breakfast on waking together with insulin and this should stop the rise in bg.

Your on a different QA to myself so can't answer your question when to take your insulin, I use novorapid and inject immediately before eating which covers my breakfast well being low/medium gi.

By not eating on a morning you body will signal its liver to realise glycogen to provide energy for the day ahead, easiest way round this dumping process is to eat breakfast!

Went to bed at 4.7 (had a small snack) woke up at 5.9. Felt really ill and couldn't face breakfast at all so in bed I gave myself 1u in the tummy. Got up, got showered, went to Sainsbury's and 1hr 45mins later I was 3.9. Hurrah, no stupid high up to 12.0 like the last few days. If I don't feel like eating again I will make sure I check earlier so it doesn't go quite so low.
