Humalog mix (50/50 or 75/25)?

Hi all,

T1D for 30 years now. I've been on Humalog most of that time, and switched to Fiasp this year because Humalog was taking HOURS to kick in. Unfortunately, it's the same story with Fiasp. I recently started looking into the Humalog mixes (50/50 and 75/25). No one really talks about them, but I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with those? I am desperate to fix the post-meal highs (which occur no matter what I eat, and no matter what my blood sugar was pre-meal).
 
There is less flexibility with the mixes, the are generally used in cases where people don't carb count and just have a couple of injections a day

The mix is just the fast and slow insulin mixed so it won't work any faster

There could be issues where the sites you are using have been over used slowing down absorption have you tried elsewhere? Arms are generally faster, many use thighs


Put it this way.. if you inject your 2 types of insulin at the same time in equal quantity that would be the same as a 50/50 mix

Id start by trying other sites, but at the moment fiasp and lymjev are the 2 faster insulins

Like @searley said, I wouldn't expect a mixed insulin to be of help with post meal highs.

Are you prebolusing, and by how long?
For me it takes pretty long for my insulin to kick in as well, but it takes much longer to bring down a high than to prevent the high by a longer pre bolus.
I often wait to eat until I see the graph from my CGM starting to drop (Sugar Surfing).
I also find it very hard to prevent highs (sometimes short spikes, sometimes sticky highs) when I eat high carb foods, so I usually choose lower carb alternatives to make my life easier.
 
Yes, I regularly rotate sites. Thanks for weighing in!
 
I've done low and high carb, and unfortunately protein in a low carb meal also causes spikes (which last longer than carb spikes, for me). I have been prebolusing lately an hour before eating, which helps a little. 2 hours would probably be ideal - but I also don't always know EXACTLY how hungry I'll be in two hours, and because I work "in the field", I don't always prepare my own food and measure everything, etc. It's a mess! Thanks for the feedback!
