I have recently started on the above insulin, I take 12 units in a morning and 14 units on an evening. I am also on oral meds aswell. What are other peoples experience with this type of insulin, weight loss/gain, decrease in BS readings?? Also as I have to inject twice a day, does this mean i would qualify for a CGM on the NHS? Anyone know the criteria?

Hi @JenniW90 I was put on the same insulin and Metformin when it was originally suspected that I was T2, but the combination of not eating, (with the shock and worry of it all), and my pancreas still chucking out insulin of its own, I wasn't on it long enough to answer your questions, sorry. I am sure the insulin was working well, as I was dropping into the 5s then lower (from in the 20s!) within about a week and my units kept getting reduced until it wasn't worth it by the 3 week mark and my BG was pretty much <10 all the time by then.

As far as I understand the insulin won't make you put on weight, but if you are often eating a bunch of sweets to stave off hypos, or able to eat a 'fattening' diet but matching the insulin, then that would do it.

The NICE guidelines for T2s are:
  • some people with type 2 diabetes who use insulin intensive therapy (2 or more injections a day) should have access to Flash, for example if they experience recurrent or severe hypos, if they have a disability that means they cannot finger-prick test or if they would otherwise be advised to test 8 or more times a day.
It is probably a postcode lottery on top of that, and at least where I live, Libre etc can only be prescribed by a consultant, not a GP or local diabetes nurse, and you only get on the consultant list if T1, and then have a mighty long wait to be seen.

Not much help, sorry, I'm a sucker for an unanswered thread, but hope you get the answers you need
