I used to love hummus, I know quite a few can tolerate it but it’s one of those things that pushes my BG up too far, but the best way as always is to test & see.
@Outlier I make my own Hummus, I can only have small quantities as chick peas are around 50 grams of carbs per cup of dried chick peas. I use 1 cup of dried dry chick peas and soak them for 8 hours and then boil them for just over an hour before blending them with garlic, cumin, and Tahini and olive oil. So a cup of dried chick peas makes around 500 grams of humus .
Carb manager states 1 cup of dried chick peas contain
Thank you. Mum used to make her own as well. As I don't have a blender, I shall be buying mine ready made. Any recommendations. I have to raise my carb intake from strict keto to low carb in order to accommodate my 'flozin, and I thought a couple of spoons of hummus might be a nice way to do it.
Hummus is an odd one for me, it needs way less insulin for me than I'd expect from the carb count!
I absolutely love hummus, and I usually eat it as a dip with chicory leaves before bed. No insulin needed for about 100 gr of hummus before bed, although I need a little insulin if I eat hummus earlier in the day.
My favourite brand is Maaza, no idea if they have it in the UK.
