I would try just cutting down the carbs. Not cutting them out completely. I was 18 stone two years ago. I cannot cook myself a meal I have M.E. and literally do not have the energy to prepare food. Bread, pasta, potatoes are normally the main culprits. Whilst I was waiting for my blood results I put myself through a detox diet, and found I was allergic to quite a few things, so for me cutting out bread, and pasta was fairly easy as I have a problem with both wheat and yeast. I am also intolerant to eggs and have recently omitted them out of my diet.
Anyhow I am now 13 stone 9lbs and my latest HBA1c was 4.3 my GP was shocked as she said it was the fastest turn around she has ever seen, as on diagnosis in October 2012 my fasting blood glucose was 13.7, my cholesterol has improved as well. I was on steroids once and anti-depressants and also pregablin (for the M.E) but not eating much, only starchy carbs to try and regain energy. I still have no energy - so exercise is minimal as I am mainly bed - bound or if I can tolerate sound I am allowed downstairs. But I was taken off them when I threatened to starve myself to death, in desperation to lose the weight.
