Hypo-alarms

Lack of choice of insulin for newly diagnosed patients.
Dog owners who let their dogs poop in the street-a hazard for most, but worse if you're visually impaired!

HI,
does anyone know if hypo-alarms are available on loan for children? Making enquiries for a friend of mine, be grateful for any input.

There worn like a watch and pick-up when a patient is low by the sweat on the skin, apart from that I don't know a great deal about them either.

good suggestion, but getting through to my local hospiital is a mammoth task!; even when you eventually get put thru to the right department, no one answers the phone :cry: Thought would be quicker to ask on the forum, and hear of other's experience.
A hypo-alarm is a device which ,as far as I know, detects perspiration, and wakes the sleeper with an alarm sound. I was under the impression they were placed under the mattress :? -not sure though. Don't even know if they're still in use, never used one myself, they might even have been replaced by Continuous Glucose Monitors for all I know. Do they have alarms?

oh, I've got one of those, they are not very good/reliable I'm afraid! Mine went off once as I was sleeping by an open window and the breeze cooled my skin - tested anyway and I was 5.8 or something equally unremarkable. Worth a go though, hence why I bought one........
 
PS - I think some CGM's have alarms, I know someone who has a CGM linked to his pump and the 2 'talk' and alarms go off but not sure if it's the CGM or the pump? Would make sense if it was the pump I suppose......but don't quote me!
 
Thanks for that, I'll metion that to my friend, maybe a CGM is the way to go, hopeufully the clinic can lend her one. Just googled hypo alarms, not much info, but Nigel you're right, they're worn on the wrist. Night hypos must be a terrible worry for parents, as if children aren't a worry enough at the best of times
