Hey everyone!
So I'm new to this whole diabetes adventure - I was diagnosed a little over a month ago after fasting BG of 13 and non fasting of 22. I'm finding it rather hard just now of course, but I'm sure this is normal in the beginning?
Anyway, my first question is regarding the honeymoon period. Mine started about 2 weeks after diagnosis, meaning that I'm down to 2 or 3 units of fast acting instead of 10 or 11. I was just wondering roughly how long people's honeymoons have lasted? I know it varies from person to person, but I'd like a rough idea if possible.
My second question is about hypos. Being a 21 year old, I quite like the odd night out and last night was my first since being diagnosed. Everything went fine, I had drinks etc but so far today I have had 2 hypos pretty soon after each other. Does this happen to anyone else after a night out/alcohol consumption?
If you know that your going to hypo the following morning after drinking alcohol then you need to make adjustments to compensate Laura, therefore try reducing your morning insulin or alternatively eat more carbs for your breakfast.
When I was your age I was a beer drinker and would hypo around 10am the following morning, after I picked up on this I began to eat more carbs to avoid the dreaded hypo, since drinking red wine I don't seem to get the hypo's the following day :?
Is there anyone on there honeymoon period as im onit n nt takin any insulin or tablets and my sugar levels are still all over the place.i can eat the same meals n b 6 after 2hours n then over days i can be ten.is anyone else goin through this as im scared to ever take insulin as i still have habos without it.thanks.
Ah, thank you that's very helpful. I'll know what to do for next time now, as this was the first time I had gone out since being diagnosed and I had no idea it would affect me this morning too. Lots to learn I guess Thank you for your help.
