I have recently been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes , I have really scared about having a hypo as I have only ever been too high in my blood sugar .. How do I get over this fear ?
I live with my partner and he is really supportive but works long hours , I worried if I did go unconscious how long can I last ! Help !

Hello,
I would imagine that you'll feel a hypo coming on, did you receive a leaflet with the symptoms?
Keep fast acting sugar on u at all times, ie full sugar coke, fruit juice, glucose tablets.

What's ur lowest reading so far?

Well my lowest is 8.3 I have been running at about 14-20 . im just so nervous when I see them single figure numbers that I'm going to go hypo in my sleep , i have fast acting sugars around me too and I have all the information

I have read through this , I know the symptoms and I feel silly being nervous ! I just don't want to go into hospital ! It's all so new !

Your doing everything right by keeping fast acting glucose available. I would have a chat with your DSN or consultant and mention your fears, but be assured the hypo symptoms are quite strong when your newly diagnosed and you will recognise them immediately, the article that I provided explains most of the common hypo symptoms, if you feel them coming on you should take the appropriate action.
