I AM MORE CONFUSED THAN EVER!!!

Type of diabetes
Don't have diabetes
I got my blood test results and my hba1c was 6.7% which the doctor told me was normal. I explained my symptoms to him and that they are getting steadily worse. He thinks my high blood sugar readings of 9 and above these last couple of weeks are a fluke and doesn't seem concerned and he thinks it might be a problem with my kidneys!

Should i be worried and is he right????

I am so sorry to hear that your doc doesn't take your concerns seriously and I am afraid he is wrong. An HbA1c of 6.7% is in the diabetic range. It isn't very high, but it is still diabetic.

I don't think so as i got a referral from my gp to see him and now he is my sort of permanent doctor
 
Having blood sugar of 9 mmol does not mean diabetic, but your hbA1c is of concern, 6.7% are considered diabetic.

You sure your blood sugar aren’t any higher than around 9 mmol? An A1c of 6.7 indicates that your averange blood sugar are around 8mmol. You don’t use any medication or steroids that can elevate blood glucose?

I don't know what to say. I am really sorry. Your health concerns deserve to be taken seriously.

I don't really know what my sugars are like as i have only had them tested twice two weeks ago and no i don't take any medication or use steroids

Do you think i could just ignore it, i know it sounds crazy but my parents will not want to take me out again

Well then I would say am I sorry that your GP aren’t taking you seriously. Your hbA1c are too high, and you should be ruled out for diabetes.

It’s importmat to get medication before your hbA1c gets all out of hand. If your GP won’t take your concerns I would advice you to check it with a new GP. A1c of 6.7% are not alright, and should be checked further.

When you say parent, how old are you? And NO, you should not ignore a hbA1c of 6.7%.
 
Hi @Fluffy12,

Do you have anyone else you could talk to? Maybe a counselor at school?

I don't think your blood sugars are at a dangerous level yet -- but it definitely should be looked into. I would think it is important to find out whether it is Type 1 diabetes.
 

I don't have a counsellor at my school and i don't think anyone will take me seriously until it gets very bad

That means type 1 are more likely, which progress much faster than type 2. Ask your GP for a c-peptid test and anti-GAD test. If you’re getting type 1 it’s important to start medication fast.

Hi @Fluffy12,

I have seen that the member I tagged hasn't been online for a while.

I realize you are in a difficult situation, but you really need to get help before your blood sugars get worse. Do you have a teacher you feel comfortable talking to and whom you trust?
 
I don't trust any teachers and im a bit scared about telling anyone about this as my parents believe the doctor and will get angry at me for telling someone behind their back
 
they already feel like i am overreacting!!!
