I at a loss what to do with my eyes

Floaters, bits of dead skin from inside your eye) do sound like that.
Depending on how bad, they normally settle to the bottom.

Are you short sighted by any chance?

Floaters aren't a diabetic condition/complication.

Anyone can experience floaters at any age, it's not just something that people with diabetes experience, if your seeing the Ophthalmology Dept as an in-patient then they will confirm the cause.

The Ophthalmology Dept; will let you know what is going on, most of all they will sort things out and put your mind at ease. When I had a similar experience with floaters,they put drops in my eyes and done various checks,after about 4 monthly visits things got much better and now 2 years gone problem gone.( just get yearly checks )
I can't even remember what they recommended but no medication was necessary.

Forgot to mention they did see a small cataract which was to small to be concerned about.

You can seek their advice on this if you are still concerned and questioning this .
Write down a list of your own concerns/questions .

You may need someone to drive you home as some eye drops can blur
the vision and cause light sensitivity ?
Ring eye clinic up and seek their advice on this .

Take along a friend of family member for moral support if you wish ?
The pre-written list can help if forget a concern or question due to nerves
or stress .

Get to a decent retinopathy expert as soon as possible, and forget about whether you have diabetes or not for now. When this happened to me, they found that my retina was being pulled, as the vitreous matter in my eye was shrinking. As it was shrinking, it was pulling my retina down, leading to floaters. I went to so many people in stores and hospital emergency departments, but nothing was done until I saw the correct specialist for my eyes, privately, as trying to go through normal channels just simply held me up. I had surgery to take the vitreous matter out, and the big floaters vanished. Only one or two tiny ones were left until they settled down. I had laser surgery during this procedure, to 'stick' my retina back into its original position. Yes, they found a cataract a few years later, and I have since had it removed. My left eye sees very well now, despite the vitrectomy, laser surgeries as a diabetic and cataract removal. So don't lose hope. I had the floaters since 8 years ago and they haven't returned. Just remember, see the consultant / specialist, book up an eye assessment in a store if it can speed things up for you, go privately to save time. Good luck. Please feel free to ask any questions!

Hi. It doesn't sound like retinopathy, this takes many years to develop after first being diagnosed (for most - some people who miss being diagnosed and have diabetes unknowingly for many years may develop it sooner). If you are not diabetic, it certainly won't be diabetic retinopathy.

You can get a floaters only vitrectomy done privately but I doubt the NHS would fund it unless there is an underlying problem like the poster above had. A vitrectomy is quite an invasive surgery with many risks, I had one done a few years ago and the surgeon pulled a tiny hole in my retina which means I can't see out of the corner of one eye. That's quite normal with that kind of surgery.

They may be annoying, but if it is just floaters it's not going to lead to sight loss, which most of us on here have to contend with the fear of.

But best to get it checked out just in case.

Just got back from a retinopathy screening today (my diagnosis was quite by accident after being referred by my optician for possible glaucoma - no glaucoma found but some early retina blood vessel problems noted). Progress is very good after three months of reducing carbs and increasing exercise according to the ophthalmologist.
