I DID IT!

A little update....

I went to the Bariatric Surgery Seminar and got loads of info on 3 different procedures, the Gastric Band, Gastric Bypass and the Sleeve gastrectomy (also called Gastric Sleeve)... I did mention the Endobarrier Sleeve, but they are not offering or even looking into this one so I have put it out of my mind. (I still think though that it would be an awesome procedure for diabetics that are not obese, to control their BG)

Just this morning I got a letter through the post giving me an appointment on April 11th to see the specialist bariatric nurse.... YAY ME lol as far as I know, it will be a 1 1/2 year waiting list to the surgery itself :? and that is only if I meet all the targets they set me, i.e. weight loss and liver shrinking diet for 10 days (YUCK) ...

So the count down (hopefully) will begin in April

P.S. I REALLY hate hospital weighing scales, I was a stone heavier then on the one at home AND the one at my doctor's office... :evil:

The bariatric surgeon said that he puts all patients on a high-protein diet designed to shrink the liver. They do that because the surgery is now done via key hole surgery and with a large liver, it can be pretty difficult to perform the surgery. Also it can lessen the time you have to be under anesthesia, which can lessen the risk of complications. What is included in this diet, is determined by a specialist dietitian and I think, as far as I understood it, will be different for each person.
