Yup, here I is folks, the long wait is over and your patience is now rewarded! You lucky, lucky people!

Well, that's my line anyway and if I'm actually as down as a labour party pollster I am keeping that to myself!

Type 1 diabetic for 57 years, had laser eye surgery in one eye and a heart bypass but otherwise no complications at all. 64 years old so I think that's pretty good. I put it down to close control of BG and never relying on doctors. I would not be here today if I'd listened to doctors, or quacks as I prefer to call them. I now take 50 i.u Lantus and approx 100 i.u. Humalog per day.

You may be hearing from me, unless you're lucky

Hi George and welcome.

According to your profile you have only been diagnosed 1 year? :?

How do you maintain your BG levels?

Welcome George,

Quite a introduction, I don't think life will be boring with you around!

Hi, Noblehead. But, don't be fooled: I am a 100% bore and I have the stificate to prove it. Proud to be a bore, too, after all any fool can have a personality, to be as grey and dead as me takes expertise

Hi Synonim. Don't get you unfortunately. I was diagnosed type one in 1953. As mentioned I control BG with insulin as detailed.

Thanks for the responses

Love

George

Hello again George

If you click on your name the profile comes up and on there it states that it is 1 year since diagnosis - you can change this to show the right time frame. 8)

Hi Totsy, and thankyou all.

CarbsRok, I very carefully watch sugar intake but have never understood how you can "count carbs". An orange contains x ammount of carbs? But you can get a tiny orange or a ginormous one. I just usually have a good idea how much sugar there is in something, so much easier now they put sugar content on most things.

But yes, right, I am taking an awful lot of insulin, e.g. 152 total yesterday. As my BH (is that right?) is good, currently 6.1, my doctor isn't bothered when I complain how much I have to keep taking. I try to take care, cholesterol 2.9 without statins.

Synonym - sorry, I meant to say, last message. I clicked my profile as you say but cant see how to ammend the figure. Not to worry, the length of time I've had it is no source of pride to me. I curse my mother for giving me it but c'est la vie

Love

Hello again George,

Are you sure it was your mother?!

Hi George,
You sound like a real character.
How on earth do you keep your cholesterol down without statins , my doctor told me I have to take them ( I am newly diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes & high cholesterol 7.9 ) he said if I don't take them I run the risk of heart disease and that heart disease is the biggest killer of diabetics, I am so scared , I am told I must take metformin x2 every day as well as 40mg simverstatin. I feel like I don't know what is going on any more. I am not in control and I don't like it .

Hi brekky, When I was diagnosed DB 12 months ago my chloresterol was 7.9 I refused the statins and took plant sterols I reduced to 5.9 in 5 months and latest result is 4.7 The sterol I use is called Lesterin from a health shop but others may work as well .This works for me may not work for you as we are all different. Hope things go well for you . CAROL

Georgethetee, you're a breathe fresh air! I was recently diagnosed last week with Type 1 and there's been all sorts of things going through my head...you've put a smile back on my face.

Also like to thank the other people in this forum, i will definitely be a regular on here.

George
my husband is T1 for only 35 years. His Insulin doses had climbed up to over 100 in total and his weight climbed too. I now provide him with reduced carb food and he's dropped his insulin doses down too. Weight is lagging behind. As he has complications of the feet, it would be good if weight would hurry up

Thanks for the repsonse folks!

Brekky, I try to cut out fat, that's all, like Jack Spratt. Low fat spread, etc etc as you know I'm sure. I like grapefruits as well which I believe helps. Basically all the usual cliches, fruit and nuts and fish etc. Fortunately I have always loved such stuff anyway.

Hana, sounds like you are doing a great job for your hubby, lucky guy. I am trying hard to cut down my dose and this week took about 10 units per day less than last, so something seems to be going right somehow.

Regards to all
