Hi, I have had Diabetes Type 2 now for around 12 years. I had early onset middle age Diabetes(I'm now 43).
I feel that I have never been completely controlled, and have had many problems along the way. I am currently on Novo Rapid 3 times a day with meals and taking around 30/35 ml each time and then 65 morning and night time of Lantus. I am gaining weight at an alarming rate and am not sure what to do next. My nurse put me on Byetta a year ago and I lost 3 stone but took me off as it was having no affect on my sugar levels, since then I have started gaining everything that I had lost.

I am generally fit and well no serious complication yet, but I feel that it is only a matter of time as my sugar levels seem to be generally quite high. Am I to resign myself to a life being large but controlled or is there another answer?

Also I am looking for a consultant that could help me out as I am not convinced that where i am currently now know what they are doing!

I would appreciate any help of advise form anyone out there.

Thanks

I know you are not a new Diabetic but it may be worth your while going back to basics to see if you can change anything in your diet.

Insulin does make you put on weight especially if you take a lot of it to cover a large Carb intake.

Below is the basic information Ken and I put together to help new Diabetics understand a bit about their Diabetes.
