If I'm going to be naughty, when should that be?

Being the Easter weekend DH is going to have a bun. I'm going to have half a bun BUT to try to minimise impact should I have my half with a cup of tea mid afternoon, or save it and have it with evening meal?

(I'm quite new to this and haven't had anything like a bun in weeks, a slice of bread, and on another occasion a bit of sweet potato gave me a 5.7 to 8.4 rise each time)
 
Personally, I would have it with my evening meal because snacking between meals is not a good idea for us, especially if the snack is a carby one. All that would do is raise your levels unnecessarily during the afternoon and create an insulin surge that is never a wise thing to do.
 
Please don't waste the other half a bun.
 
In the grand scheme it won't make much difference. Glucose is going in and the body will use some and store some. Of greater importance is what happens to your insulin production, and you can't measure that anyway. On the whole I would agree that the evening time is probably best. Never would be better but you know that anyway, so if you're going to have it and enjoy it then just do it and own it.

Am quite pleased I'm limiting it to one bun over 2 days. I've even foregone the wine
 
I'm going to disagree on the loads of butter thing. Obviously I'd use butter over anything else but, actually, carbs and fat together are a recipe for a metabolic firestorm. Use butter but don't slap it on unnecessarily thinking it will be doing some good. It may slow the blood glucose response, but the glucose is still going into your body, only now you'll also have loads of additional energy in the butter. More energy to be managed and stored along with the sugar. Sorry to be pedantic, but I care about this sort of thing. The devil is in the detail

@MrsA2 I am going to join in the voices that say eat it and enjoy it, and eat as much or as little butter on it as you want.
It is one bun, once a year.

I used to enjoy hot cross buns more than chocolate (and believe me, that is an incredible statement).
And then a few years ago, they brought out orange and cranberry ones in Tescos... thought I had died and gone to heaven.
Used to enjoy ONE a year. lol. No guilt. No hassle. Just good old indulgence and lashings of butter.

Then one year I settled down, bun, butter, anticipated joy... and it was SUCH a disappointment. All that excitement... and it was no better than my lovely buttery egg scramble would have been.
My tastes have changed a great deal.

So enjoy your bun today, and then wait and see if you even want one next year.

I hope you enjoy your bun and I am sure you won't suffer for it unless its is a slippery slope (carb addicts beware).
Physiologically your hormones (insulin, cortisol) are more likely to jack up first thing in the morning.
I do have half buns too and do not feel guulty if I put the rest of it in a food bin (cannot feed it to the dustbin dog because of the raisins).
The first bite of such a treat is the best and then you are onto diminishing returns!
 
I try to follow Mary Berrys advice, one bite satisfies a taste, 2 bites satisfies a craving. Any more is just greed.

I’d have it with coffee in the morning or a cup of tea in the afternoon
 
My glucose levels are always lower later in the day, so I'd probably eat my bun as part of my evening meal - and if you just have half then you can always donate the rest to the birds! But sometimes these "treats" are never as good as you expect as I discovered when finally trying a mince pie several years after i started low carbing.
