If I'm thirsty after a meal, does this mean the carbs were too high?

In the past two days I've had meals that were low in carbs, according to the labels. However I've been left feeling rather thirsty. As thirst is a symptom of Type 2, should I be on my guard about having this type of meal again?

KittyKatty - feeling thirsty is related to rising blood sugars levels .
This happens with all types of Diabetes not only with type 2 diabetes.

What ever you eat isnt the key factor with thirst symptoms .
Its the rise in blood sugars that causes our thirst !

So its time to check your BG levels when thirst symptoms kick in .
My own thirst symptoms happen after a range of 10.4 with me .
But this is JUST me ...

Each person or member may vary on this .

Hope this can help you more .

Hi Anna,

many thanks for your reply. I checked my blood a few mins after your post. It was 4.7 so I'm wondering if the food was too fat or too salty. I'd better monitor that too!

If it's salty you will certainly feel thirsty after eating, just reduce the salt content or drink more fluids.

If you are starting a low carb diet you'll need to drink more water in the first few weeks.
