Hi, my name is zoe and my daughter of six years has just been dianosed with type 1 diabetes about a week ago. I am petrified  . She is having insulin twice a day, and oh what a battle, i am a single mum, and unable to hold her to administer her insulin, so we are taking trips to the hospital every morning before breakfast, then again before tea, we were starting to make progress then this morning it all went to pot and seem to be back to square one. I am sure we will get through this and hopefully she will realise that she has to have the injections. My main concern is food. I only buy 'no added sugar' squash, we have got our little supply haribo and mini cans of coke incase of hypo's, She doesn't like ham, cheese, egg, milk, tuna, beef, pork, beans, anything in a sauce, gravy in fact she doesn't like anything wet. which doesn't leave much left to buy to keep her healthy . i am really not sure what foods she should be eating, and what to give her for snack time, saying that she is always hungry, she just doesn't seem to stop. if anyone has any suggestions or comment about what i have written i would be very grateful, In fact any suggestions or tips about anything to do with diabetes and children would be fantastic. I know i have the support from the medical teams, but it would be nice to hear from people that live it.

many thanks

zoe

there is some evidence that msg can cause a rise in blood sugar. it does for me.
gravies often have some msg (even if its not added, it can be there just as a result
of internal changes in the proteins). so not liking gravy might be a bonus. msg is
also present in tomatoes, mushrooms, some cheeses, and some aged meats (like
salamis). so u can test these with small amounts and check the blood sugar after an hour
or 90 minutes to see how it has reacted.
