I'm worried about my glucose level

Hello,

I was diagnosed a few weeks ago as a type 2 diabetic. At my last visit with the nurse she thought my levels were high so we ordered a meter and strips to do some testing at home. My reading before eating was 14.6. From the little info I have at my disposal that reading seems very high but I don't really know if it is or not. Can anyone help with an answer please of what I should expect?

Best wishes - Mark

Hi Mark and welcome to the forum Yes, your reading is much too high. Here is some information which should help you to get this reading down, and will also tell you what you should be aiming for. Ask as many questions as you like as there is always someone here to help.

Hello Daisy,

Thank you for your quick response to my query. It's as I thought then. I'm a little nervous of it as I am so new to it.

Best wishes - Mark

Hi Mark and welcome. Follow Daisy's advice and cut back on those starchy carbs. You'll soon start to get better readings. If it was me, I'd concentrate on testing 2 hours after eating to work out how much of each food type you can manage without getting high readings.

If you read tthe leaflet which comes with your test strip pack, it will tell you what non-diabetic blood sugars are.
It's my belief that those shouold be the targets for diabetics.Double figures are MUCH TOO HIGH. although you are at the beginning of your journey. It will take a while to learn what to do. As you have a meter, you are equipped to learn "Self Management".
