Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could let me know if I am doing the right thing. When I wake up in the morning lately my sugars have been sky high - high teens and 20s - is it okay to take a extra shot of novorapid before breakfast (usually i take about 7 units) just to bring my sugars down to a normal level? and then have my normal shots with food? is this dangerous or what I should be doing?
Appreciate advice on this!
thanks

mon,

Try looking at your previous evenings insulin/carb ratios to work out why you are waking to such high levels, perhaps your background insulin needs to be increased, but it would be helpful to know what your bg readings are before bed.

Correction doses are fine to use to bring down high bg readings, but just remember that 1 unit of novorapid will typically bring down your bg by 2-3 mmol, but always test every hour thereafter.

Sounds like you need to increase your background insulin. What and how much and when are you taking it?

Hi

When my son is high in the morning we would increase his breakfast novorapid rather than give him an extra injection of insulin.

Definately look at your background insulin.
