Insulin And Hypos

I am a little bit confused.
On the page on this site about "how to inject insulin" I found this information:

"Firstly, prepare your kit.

You will need:

  • An insulin pen
  • Enough insulin inside to give the required dose
  • A new pen needle
  • Cotton wool or a tissue
Make sure you have your kit available at all times and if possible, inform your family as to its location.

If you suffer from a hypo, this will allow your family to act quickly"

Now, if I suffer from a hypo, I think the LAST thing I will need is more insulin! But this info seems to suggest that your family will think that what they need to do is find your insulin kit and administer some to you.

Yup your right it does say that and of course it's wrong what it does not say is that in your kit should be a hypo correcting treatment such as a glucogen injection pen or similar.
 
You can't administer insulin to someone having hypoglycemia that will kill him. Fast acting carbs then after recovery slow acting carbs to avoid another drop
 
You're completely right! And to add, what do I need the cotton wool or a tissue for? I have succesfully injected insulin at least six times a day for quite some while, and I might be in the possesion of cotton wool or tissues but if I am it'll be in the attic in one of the boxes with stuff from my late parents.
Do you think I'll have to dig up some ancient cotton wool before my next injection?

The very thought of cotton wool makes me shiver can't abide to touch the stuff.

Hopefully your family and friends will get to recognise when you are low and have some lucozade or something sweet on hand. Remember lucozafe only has half the sugar now.

Very misleading, it's not made clear that it would be glucose tablets or similar that's required. I used their contact page at https://www.diabetes.co.uk/contact.html to suggest that the comment in the guideline really needs a much better description and clarification.
 
That's so wrong!
I recently had a hypo where the paramedics were called, and boy, was I thankful! My mister and my best friend were trying to figure out how much insulin to give me when they arrived! Once I had my wits about me, I gave them both a stern talking to about how they would have killed me and what they should do next time. (Not our first talk, mind you.)
Sheez! Some people!
