Insulin dosage

My Insulin dosage is based purely on my pre meal readings between 5 and 10 units depending on my bs. My specialist insists that there is no reason to do a post meal check or adjust for carb intake because as long as the pre meal ones are within reason all will be well in the long run.

Does this sound a reasonable assumption? Personally I have my doubts.

My question is..if i adjust my dose to cover the food intake (1 unit for 10g carbs?) how do i calcuate the standard amount into this?
for example: If My Bs was 5 i would take 5 units and if was going to eat 50g carbs, would i take 10 units or just 5?
I am happy with my pre meal results, out of the last 60, 52 have been between 4.2 and 6.5 but last night i felt rough so tested 2 hours after food (1 chicken burger+bun, nothing else) and it had spiked to 15.6 from 5.2 pre meal :x I have a feeling this is not an isolated event.

I strongly disagree! Your pre meal levels may be spot on, but if they are shooting up into double figures after you eat then you clearly aren't taking enough insulin. I'm not saying that you have to check before and after every single meal, but you do need to be confident that you're giving yourself the right amount of insulin. As for carbs, of course you need to adjust. You need a lot more insulin to cover a bowl of pasta than a salad, for example!
