Hi, I am a type 1, 1.5 which I have been for 4 years, with a hba1c of 7.2. I have questioned the fact tat I seem to be fairly resistant to insulin / drugs in general. I only take 30u levemir split into 2doses, however novo rapid seems to work irratic and to prove such point I overdosed with 250u novo rapid in one go, my bg only dropped to 2.9 although I felt low for a couple of hours. I still functioned perfectly well! I have asked to change insulin and ths as been refused. I often go high before te insulin working and only if I have long periods between meals. Does nobody else have this problem and I am slightly concerned that I can cope with such large quantities of insulin. That was only a one off I do not normally take overdoses I was interested to see if anything would happen as I was fairly confident nothing would.

250 units is a hell of alot of insulin,i regaully overdose with taking 25 units just for the hell of it so that the thing will go away.did you not have any problems at all.again sometime 25 puts me in a hypo and sometimes i feel just fine and silmerley nothink happens. :eh:

Others will correct me if I'm wrong, but (aside from the point made above about the 250 units being rather a lot), if you are T1.5, that means you have some beta cell function. I am assuming that the counter-regulatory mechanisms which non-diabetics have against hypos also work partially for you. This could be why the overdose didn't result in drastic hypos - your liver pumped out glucose to compensate. Just a theory, I don't know whether this is how it works. I know that in T1 diabetics this process is impaired, which is why we suffer from more severe hypos.
