Insulin pump

Can anyone tell me what what I have to do to do to get a insulin pump for my type 1 diabetes. I have been type 1 now for 29 year's and I asked my consultant last month to switch from injection to pump but got turned down because he said my condition was too well controlled. I can't understand this decision as I thought I would've been perfect for a pump. My hba1c is 7.1. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi I went to a two hour session on a insulin pump for my five year old last week only to be told that his name would be put on the list and the only reason he would get one is because of his age if they thought he was suitable I think you just need to keep on at your diabetes team . I really think all diabetics should get one as I'm sure they would give everyone that freedom they deserve.

There are certain criteria that most pct's will have for you to go on a pump.

I got mine because my Hba1c was consistently over 9.5 (for about 14 years).

Other criteria include wanting to have a baby or having "fear of hypos".

Speak to your team about it they should tell you...
