What confused me was that all that insulin during day, then stopping day ones , my blood glucose seemed the same. I felt the insulin didn't do anything. I did start a thread about Being an ex pat living in Spain and not speaking the language, however the forum helped me with several ideas. I am away next week for a vacation and when l get back l am getting a lovely lady l met and she is going to be my translator . I need to get a diabetic dr or nurse to take over my treatment. Then l can find out about my insulin and other stuff. Ty for responding sittinaroundYou might want to try changing the brand name insulin you're using. For a time I was using 150 units of Levemir a day (75 units in the AM and 75 units at night). I was getting frightened regarding the amount I was injecting. Out of exasperation, I tried Lantus (via an old Rx) and my numbers adjusted dramatically - in my favour. I ended up dropping to about 20 units a day of Lantus. btw changes ok'd by my endocrinologist - definitely check with yours before trying a new regimen.
Good luck!
Ho. I know this isn't addressing your insulin question, but as your bg levels are unstable, have you looked at addressing your diet too? Cutting carb levels will often help to reduce your bg levels - what type of foods are you eating? Maybe it would be possible to stabilise your levels a bit?
I eat plenty of fresh chicken, fish, burgers, sausage and always have vegetables with it some times had a small portion of potatoes and also fruits,
But my nurse said I should have some carbs and starchy foods which I am (sencably)
I did try the low carb diet for a couple of weeks but didn't make any difference to BG levels and when I told the nurse she said she would refer me to a dietitian but first she's concentrating on getting my levels down
