Hi All,
I thought this may be of interest to newly diagnosed T2s.

Thu, 11 Sep 2008
According to a new study by Oxford University, intensively controlling blood glucose from the point of diagnosis amongst people with type 2 diabetes has a positive future affect.

The study, which has run for 30 years, was conducted by experts at the Oxford Centre for diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism. Controlling blood glucose at an earlier stage reportedly lowers risk of complications and death.

The chief investigator of the study, Professor Rury Holman, reportedly commented: "Good glucose control from the time type 2 diabetes is diagnosed reduces the rate of diabetic complications. This intervention leads to sustained benefits in the longer term."

Conclusions of the study will be published in the New England Journal of Medicine

This shows the need for T2s to have adequate supplies of test strips, and easier access to Dietitians.

To be just a bit sit on the fence, it would be interesting to pin them down to just what do they mean by" good glucose control and early intervention" as opposed to what im sure the "enlightened" on here might propose.

Comments anyone ?

Graham said easier access to dieticians, but only if the advice given is better than the advice we get now!!

Hi Dave,
Obviously till the full report is published we won't know the full story. But I must admit it gave me a kick up the backside I've beeen going through a bad time of late and got a bit lax with my diet, it made me realise that whatever problems I have I need to stay in control of my BG and if the message gets through to others it must be a good thing.

Regards
Graham

Hi Sue,
Point taken, I forget how lucky I was to get a good understanding Dietitian who was quite happy for me to reduce my carb intake whilst putting me on a higher fat diet to counteract my weight loss. Perhaps she views this forum and has been enlightened.

Regards
Graham
