Hi everyone this is to introduce myself as new to the forum I am a 58 year old man, I have had type 1 diabetes for 38 years and touch wood have got through them without it having any great impact on my life until recently, I have lost the warning symptoms for low blood sugar (hypo) in the last six months and have seen my consultant today who firstly told me not to to drive which I had already stopped, but tells me that the symptoms can be regained and I am to run with high sugars in fact his words were double figures and after this regime, he did not say how long my symptoms should return can anyone give me any idea what sort of time frame he is talking about or is my license gone for good. Thanks Chris

unfortunately i cant offer any info about the driving license as i dont drive but just thought id say welcome to the site and i hope you find a lot of useful info here and also receive support for whatever problems you might be having at the time. i hope you get good news about your license!!!

Hi Chris and welcome to the forum I think there are some members here who have managed to regain their hypo awareness and I hope they will see this. You may get more answers if you try opening a new thread with a title similar to "regaining hypo awareness" as members will be more likely to look at it. Try putting it in the Type 1 Diabetes forum.

We usually give some general information to new members, and, although you have lots of experience of diabetes and manage yours well, here is the information anyway and I hope you will find it interesting.
