Is it ever going to work

Are there people that toujeo or Lantus or basaglar don't work for?
My dose keeps needing increased. But never reaching goal.
I used Lantus first then got to the maximum dose it injected at one injection. Then instead of doing two shots for the increase went to toujeo at the maximum dose per injection.
Now had to switch to basaglar and started at 25 units and up to 45 still not reached goal of 4-7.
Are they just not going to work? All 3 are glargine.

45 units of basaglar is not a particular high dose. Many T2's and some T1's need over a 100 units a day, and some need multiple times this.


It makes sense to keep increasing your dose until you come close to your goal. Increasing until it works is the only way to find the right dose for you.
I'm pretty stable now at around 100 to 120 units of basal a day, plus mealtime insulin. It may well be you simply haven't reached the dose you need.

My whole insulin routine has been changed and switched.
Many times.
I'm not given reasons why except in the switch to basaglar. It's a cheaper insulin for insurance.
But why I got started on only 25 units idk. Especially since I did remind him that I was on a much higher dose before of toujeo. I'm having trouble too with the excess hunger it causes.
45 is a long way from the 160 units of toujeo too.
Not sure what's going to happen because my a1c is very good but it doesn't match my other numbers. It never has.
Is the dr going to make me stop increasing the dose to reach the fasting goals now?
Just because of 1 good number? I talk to the Dr next month.
How is it that an a1c can be good but yet other numbers never are in goal?

There are some conditions where hba1c can give false results, mainly conditions to do with iron or red blood cells.
In those cases a fructosamine test can be done instead of the hba1c to show a truer picture.

I am on Levemir with a morning and evening dose each day - evening dose is about 5 times the morning dose ... so I would never get things right based on a once a day injection.

I did an even split dose with Lantus and got better results just not to goal but better. Maybe I can do more at night as the morning one is the worst number. With the basaglar. It's the only basal I get to have now- insurance coverage.
