If you used the maximum dose it injected at once of Lantus, you used a lot more than your current 45 units.
Any reason why your dose has been reduced?
45 units of basaglar is not a particular high dose. Many T2's and some T1's need over a 100 units a day, and some need multiple times this.
It makes sense to keep increasing your dose until you come close to your goal. Increasing until it works is the only way to find the right dose for you.
I'm pretty stable now at around 100 to 120 units of basal a day, plus mealtime insulin. It may well be you simply haven't reached the dose you need.
Don't give up
