Hi
My mam has just been diagnosed with diabetes yesterday. She was sent to a&e by her doctor due to dvt and in pain. They took bloods and told her she was diabetic. Her blood sugars were 30 last night. Is this really bad?
I had to take her back for an injection today and have to again tomorrow. It was still 28 today at 6pm. She has to go to diabetes clinic Monday when it's open.
Thanks
Tasha

Hi Tasha, welcome to the forum, it is high so its a very good idea to do exactly what the hospital has told you to which im sure you are, dont panic though, she is in good hands with the docs and even better hands with you helping her, best of luck, any questions please ask away

Hi Tasha,

Your mom is lucky to have you to look after her. I am sure the medics will put her on the right track, with your help of course. Good luck

Thanks guys. Just glad we've found out why she has been so Ill lately and can hopefully get her back on track. A trip to a&e probably did us a favour as the gp just kept telling her to do pelvic floor exercises when she complained of going to the loo all the time.

Hi and welcome,
as youve been told, yes it is high but now you know and mum is being treated it will come down

Hi

Make sure she stays away from sugary stuff while you are waiting.Try to avoid white bread, white rice, pasta etc if she can.
If she needs to lose weight and exercise support her as much as you can.

We can offer lots of advice when you know a bit more about her care plan next week

Good luck
Cara

Thank you. She did need to lose weight but has lost 2 stone over the last couple of weeks so she doesn't really need to lose much more.

She's not really eating much at all at the mo as she says everything tastes disgusting.

Hopefully we'll get in diabetes clinic tomorrow and find out more.
