Is your partner / family eating low carb too?

Mr B cycles through strict LC for weight loss,
moderate LC for maintenance and feeling well,
with bouts of carb binges.

He is in the unfortunate position of having been brought up in a family that inhaled chip butties as snacks. Carbs are staples to him, and his favourite foods. He is heroic in his efforts, and I very much appreciate that he is very considerate to me almost all the time.

The dogs are on a LC raw prey model diet and refuse to eat the carby cr%p treats that people sometimes offer.
They sniff, they mouth, they spit it out and walk away.
It delights me.

My husband eats a lot of bread, cereals, rice, and is a glutton for jam and marmalade. He's the food shopper and cooks our main meals, and this means I do have a bit of a problem actually getting all the more specialist ingredients I need for my LCHF diet, so end up having to buy most of these myself which makes it a bit expensive! However, we often have basically similar meals, so main ingredients are the same and he'll just replace his higher carb options with low carb ones for me.

If @Scandichic is still around, her whole family (as far as I remember) was eating low carb with her.

But yep. The wife gets it. (I wouldn't push anything on anyone.) but she was never heavily into the carby by nature anyway.. Except the dried nibly fruit?
She told me she'd downloaded a Kindle book a few months ago & mentioned the author (who I forget.) pretty much agrees with me.. Lol nah. You may find its the other way round..

Yep my OH has joined me. He has worked out he is gluten intolerant by joining me. So has lost the acne and the incredible farts.
He still eats way more carbs than me as he eats popcorn nearly every night. If we go out to Club events he eats things like mashed potato and lasagna whilst I make do with green salad .
He is pretty proud of himself too as he has lost 10kgs without any real effort

What about the dog??

My two dogs believe my low carb diet - especially the fatty side of it - is the ultimate in cats whiskers, and appear like magic if I even think about getting cream out of the fridge...

He's on a protein, mainly white meat diet. Due to temprimental guts. Which keeps him stable.

At diagnosis, we agreed that we would eat the same things, which meant MrB went reduced carb too. We have always eaten together, at the table, and used mealtimes as a time to talk; whether reviewing the day's events, decision making or making plans. To change our way of eating, would have altered our whole dynamic, which we didn't want to do.

In effect, these days, we have the same brekkers - yoghurt based, although he will often have a banana sliced into his, where I have rhubarb on mine. Lunchtime he'll often have a sandwich whilst I have something else, but thus far that hasn't caused any ripples. Dinner is always the same. Sometimes he'll have more of something carbier than I do, but in essence our meals are aligned.

Both of us trimmed up, and MrB admits (through gritted teeth) his long-standing hiatus hernia is completely trouble-free when reduced carbing. He simply never reaches for the Gaviscon.

When we aren't together he does have more carbs, but with his medical markers, they don't seem to impact him adversely.

I'm very lucky really.

My husband and I pretty much eat the same dinners and lunches on weekends but make our own food. He eats a serving bowl of salad with protein and I eat a lettuce wrap with protein. He will eat carbier things when we are out but pretty much gluten free. Never the bun but maybe some fries. He will eat carbier stuff on holidays when it's on the table and he will eat small amounts of candy bars occasionally.
Now the kids are another story but they are grown and gone. My daughter is paleo gluten and dairy free. My son phases in and out of eating healthy but can eat a whole bag of candy in one sitting. My step son is a junk food junky. Once he complained there was no good food in the house so I bought him a huge bag full of misc junk and told him to keep it in his room.

The dog, as his health deteriorated with age we used to dump our canned tuna/ salmon juice on his food, cook chicken skin and give him left over fat and he perked up within minutes. Looking back I am sure he was diabetic. RIP.

I honestly don't know what I would do if j had to cook for a family who loved carbs every night like I used to. It would make me miserable. I have a lot of will power but I have my weakness times too.

My wife has joined me in the LCHF way of eating .. but she was never a fan of carbs anyway .. I lost loads of weight .. the wife has lost nothing
