Being so high I can barely open my eyes :(
Hi Everyone

For the past few months on and off I have been suffering with incredibly annoying itchy shins, mostly at night, disrupting my sleep and making a mess of my legs. I have not changed laundry products, and I use E45 and Diprobase but they don't help lessen the itch. Has anyone else had this? No idea if it is related to my diabetes (type 1) but I have been high for a few days.

My meds are :

Insulin
Amytriptiline
Vitamin D
Metformin

I also take vitamins daily including cod liver oil, and chromium.

I am going to tell my doctor when I see her next , I am so frustrated with losing sleep .

My stock reply when it comes to itching is - how is your carb intake? I find when I've had a few too many everything itches. If your sugars are running high this might be the reason.

I would suspect higher blood glucose levels too at this point-I was driven mad by itchy shins at night when my levels were high but it resolved in time when I got my levels under control.

I would also suspect high BG levels first. I had a friend who had lots of dry skin on her shins and this was down to overloaded adrenal glands. have you been under any extra stress recently?

You've done well to put up with it for the last few months, rather than leaving it any longer and having disturbed sleeps I would see your gp sooner rather than later.

Thank you everyone for replying. My levels have been high since I had a back injury at Christmas (MRI shows degenerated prolapsed disc) which left me unable to exercise. I mention this as I use exercise as a tool to control my levels and lower my insulin requirement. I have definitely been overdoing the carbs, this needs addressing asap really.

The skin on my shins is hydrated and not dry, I use E45 and body butter every day, its so odd that it only starts through the night! I have just booked myself in to see the doc tomorrow, will report back .

Thanks again

Karen
