jerusalem artichokes

Does anyone have experience of these as a substitute for potatoes? Do they tend to be better for BG?
 
I like them and they don't spike me, but I've only had small portions with lots of fat and protein and other (green) veg on the side. I've had them sliced and sauteed in butter, or halved and roasted in olive oil. They are edible raw, as well, and nicely crunchy at that.

One thing, though, they are not called "fartichokes" for nothing! But having small portions is actually OK even from that side
