Hi there all I am very puzzled about this fasting and first reading in the morning. What is the difference if you haven't eaten since say 6 pm and test first thing in the morning say 5 am before the first coffee is that fasting ?
They are the same thing..your first reading on the morning is your fasting assuming that you haven't eaten or drunk anything as you will have fasted whilst asleep.
Obviously if you have coffee or breakfast then take a reading it won't be the fasting one even if it is your first.
Hope that helps.
Depends..it becomes habit for a lot of us.. get up, test blood, record is just part of my morning routine..I find it quite useful when experimenting with new variations on ways of eating. If you are just testing to see what effects food has on your sugar levels then maybe not.
In my opinion the only "rule" about the first test of the day should be that it is undertaken in the same circumstances every time, otherwise comparing results is pointless.
Some people do it immediately on waking, some after 1/2 an hour or so, in the end it doesn't matter as long as you follow the same routine.
The only results you are comparing are your own, not what others report.
