If you take proper care of yourself and do what you can to keep your glucose levels under control then you may very well prevent this from happening. It's the bad dietary advice re eating carbs, and refusal to accept that type 2s should test that probably do the most damage in my opinion. Go to Amazon and look for Dr Bernstein's books and be inspired by a man who managed to not only get his type 1 diabetes under control but also repair much of the original damage to his body.

My advice is to stop reading articles by that person and start watching videos by Dr Jason Fung instead:

I was looking up how to get a consession card for my friend and it says on the website that diabetes is a progressively degenerative disease and so all diabetics should be entitled to a free bus pass, anyone else heard of this??

I asked my doctor as it bothered me quite a bit, she was as annoyed as me as it is being wrongfully categorised.
