Just thought I'd share some good news [emoji4]

Hi Ellie's mom!
Well done to Ellie for such an improvement in her HBA1c!!
We are almost a month behind you. My little boy went in for surgery on 24/3/16 and was so ill! He could barely breathe, proper gasping for air but they said he was just dehydrated and sent us home. Told us to give him sugary drinks because he'd been fasted so they said his sugars would be low and that he was drowsy from the surgery. Anyway, he got worse and worse to the point of unconsciousness. In the early hours of good Friday we rang an ambulance and he was rushed into a different hospital and was so lucky to be alive. His blood has showed his ph was 6.2! There was no bicarb in his system, he had no analyse and he was in organ failure too due to serve DKA. He spent 10 days in HDU, 3 days where he expected him to die but he fought on and he's do so bloody well!!!
He went into renal failure and they were going to move him to a different hospital but gave him drugs and have left him to see if he can recover and he did that too!!! He's just been given the all clear on his kidneys. He defied all odds, the specialist said he'd only ever seen 2 children present like that before and neither survived so he's his first! He's like a celebrity at he hospital now!!
We have 2 very special children!! Carters Hba1c was 130% and he's due to have a repeat the week after next week so I'm hoping it will be a lot better!! He too is in the honeymoon period, takes very little insulin. His ratio of Novarapid - carbs is: am 1-14 pm 1-15 and he has 5 units of Levimir at night time.
I hope your daughter keeps going on well! And I'm so glad for you that she too survived and you have the opportunity to continue to care for her and teach her all about her diabetes so she can live a long health, happy life!

Hi @Ellie's mum @mahola @TeamBeal I'm so glad your little ones are doing ok now after such a hard time. My daughter was just 2 when she was diagnosed luckily I think she was caught early as hba1c was 7.5% (I'm type1 since I was 2 so know the signs). However it's not been the easiest after a week in hospital my daughter was so traumatised she refused to eat drink, stopped speaking and wouldn't let go of me. She still isn't speaking 4 months later. She was in hospital a couple of weeks ago after a seizure for 4 days. This is all with baby twins with their own health needs it's definitely hard. She is on a pump now which seems to be going ok.

I'm just glad as I read your post that you are all starting to see the other side post emergency and diagnosis and realising that their still remains a wonderful life in store for you all with so much potential for Ellie to live life to the full

Been reading the posts here and you guys are amazing.
Not only do each of you have an amazing, brave story to tell but you each share and supply support and love to other people on this forum.
Edith was diagnosed 6 weeks ago and though we have learned a lot - we are still learning new things about her condition every day.
Some days I feel that this is way bigger than me but with the help of her bravery and management, my dear husband and the Whipps Cross Dteam most days are manageable. I think we might find a level of normal one day

I am not a parent. I was diagnosed aged 11.

I am truly thrilled to hear such amazing news from such amazing families. I have been - and still am - the recipient of incredible, unstinting support from my own family in respect of my diabetes for the past 30 years. My husband (of 2 years next week - yay to our anniversary!) is also incredible with his support and understanding.

It is very clear that the wonderful children mentioned above have a great future ahead of them thanks to their super parents and despite - or maybe even because of - the challenges that diabetes presents.

Thank you for sharing such heartwarming stories.

Thanks so much! We both waited a long time firstly to find each other, and then to finally tie the knot! We were first-time newlyweds aged 39 and 45, and couldn't be happier!

Tell her, 4g is 1 x teaspoon of sugar. So 18.9g (3 scoops) is almost 5 tsp of sugar.

Mind you, she'd probably think that was great

As a ready reconer it might help you when your shopping for the groceries.
