Keeping cool

We live in a town house and the top floor gets unbearable in the summer. Sometimes we don't bother with pyjamas as it's so hot. One night I woke up screaming as something landed on a delicate part of my anatomy. We put the light on but couldn't see anything so with great reluctance I went back to sleep. In the morning, when I woke up, there was a beautiful green cricket on the curtain. The fright was almost worth it, as I have never seen one up close. He was very beautiful, so we caught him in a jam jar and had a good look at him (the kids were fascinated) before letting him free out in the garden!
 
Cold water ......those ice pack,ones, on your wrists .....you will soon be freezing ......

Best duvet ever.
Unbelievable to sleep comfortably under the same duvet year round.
 
I'm another fan of ceiling fans, if you'll pardon the pun. We've had them for years in the living room and bedrooms and (touch wood) never yet had a disaster with one taking flight...

Never mind crickets, I was dive bombed and stung on the back of my neck by a wasp in the middle of the night! It gave me the fright of my life, but I suppose it could have chosen a worse place, couldn't it Scandi!!

I think you should sticky this for summer....for those without air con. get a bath towel, soak it in water, wring it out, strip down, lay it on yourself and have a dry towel under you to catch any drips, have a fan blow on you too, does everyone have one?.
natural evaporation will cool the body, if the towel gets hot, give it a shake/wave it to extra cool it
 
Summer, hope we get a long hot summer here in the uk ....
We just might be freezing in a few weeks .....

Yes I have a fan on in the bedroom when it is hot , really helps me sleep and I have to have the windows open all year round ....hot or cold ...
 
I love the cold.
Always have.
Really struggle at temps over 23 degrees...
Even walking to work at 8am can be dreadful sometimes.

Is it a BG thing?
I've been like it since a toddler (HATE sunbathing, sun in eyes, etc. LOVE the rain, snow, cool fresh weather...). But I've had BG issues since age 3, so have no idea if it's connected.
 
I love the cold too. Dress better, look better and actually enjoy going to the gym!!

I feel your pain! Just the thought of where it could have landed has me crossing my legs!
 
I discovered those cool pads for the bed last Summer when It was too hot to sleep. I lost weight when I used them too, presumably because my body worked harder to warm the thing up, I said I would use them all year round, but it didn't feel right in the Winter. I got mine out again last night and it was cold to start with but very warm this morning, so I must have used some calories to warm it and myself up surely? Sorry, this is the forum equivalent of me thinking aloud. Feel free to ignore me
 
I once read (no idea who, when or where - or even if it is nonsense!). That you can burn an extra 200 cals a day, in winter, by drinking only iced water.

What a lovely prospect, eh?
 
I hate the cold as I have Raynauds my fingers and toes struggle to keep warm, but I hate when its too hot too, around 20 degrees is nice much more than that and I suffer. I get all sticky and yucky.
 
Yeah 20 is ok!!

I've just googled and they sell them all over the place, including Amazon. There's also a bigger version as a mattress topper, but I find a cool place to rest my head is sufficient.

Let us know how you get on with it - though now you've bought it what's the betting the weather turns freezing... It's been much cooler and raining here today - though no-one's told my still-too-hot bedroom about it yet!
